Skipper Dirk war 128 Tage lang mit der „Fleur d’Océan“ unterwegs und erlebte Delphine, Stürme, Flaute, Puffins, Möwen, Schleusen, Regen, Sonne, Freude, Freunde, Stolz, lange Nächte, Nebel, Steine, enge Fahrwasser, Weite, Einsamkeit, Demut, Berge, Ankern, Buchten, Sandbänke, Ausflüge und Ankommen. Die Idee war lange Zeit vorhanden und wurde schließlich in 2014 in die Tat umgesetzt.
One-handed sailor Dirk embarked on a 4358-mile adventure across 9 countries, 67 stages, and 891 hours on his Hanse 370 yacht. He faced challenges like storms, calm waters, and narrow passages but also experienced joy, friendships, and humility. His dream was finally realized in 2014 after years of planning and preparation. Dirk sailed from Spain to the Baltic Sea, passing through the North Sea and the English Channel, and crossing the Atlantic to Norway and Scotland before returning to the North Sea and eventually reaching Germany.

Ein Segelabenteuer durch den Atlantik, die Nordsee und Ostsee. 9 Länder, 67 Etappen, 4358 Meilen, 891 Stunden, Einhand. 4358 Meilen von Spanien bis in die Ostsee. 128 Tage war Skipper Dirk mit der „Fleur d’Océan“, einer Hanse 370 (11,25m, BJ 2007), unterwegs. Ablegen, Delphine, Sturm, Flaute, Puffins, Möwen, Schleusen, Regen, Sonne, Freude, Freunde, Stolz, lange Nächte, Nebel, Steine, enge Fahrwasser, Weite, Einsamkeit, Demut, Berge, Ankern, Buchten, Sandbänke, Ausflüge, Ankommen.
Die Idee ist über Dekaden immer wieder aufgekommen, verworfen worden, gereift. Wurde aber nie umgesetzt. Zu wenig Zeit, anderes war wichtiger, kein Geld, bla bla – die üblichen Ausreden. Dann im Jahr 2010 fiel meine Entscheidung für ein Sabbatical (eine berufliche Auszeit). Aus der Idee wurde ein Plan, die Route abgesteckt und Boote angeschaut, Bücher und Seekarten besorgt. Auch die notwendigen Segelscheine sollten noch erworben werden.
Dann, Ende März 2014, wurde die „Fleur d’Océan“ gekauft und zwei Wochen später in See gestochen. Am 15.08.2014 sind wir in Laboe angekommen. Dazwischen unzählige Erfahrungen und Erlebnisse.
Nach Norden sollte es gehen! Von Hendaye an der spanisch-französischen Grenze über die Biskaya, durch den Englischen Kanal, entlang der Nordseeküste zum Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, durch den Kleinen Belt weiter nach Norden und dann nach Schweden, über die Koster Inseln nach Norwegen, Bergen und in den Geiranger Fjord, über den Nordatlantik zu den Shetland Islands, Orkneys und den Hebrieden, durch die 29 Schleusen des Caledonian Canal zurück in die Nordsee, über die Nordsee, in den flachen Limfjord, durch den Großen Belt um dann nach 128 Tagen in der Kieler Förde bei Laboe anzukommen.

Skipper Dirk was on the „Fleur d’Océan,“ a Hanse 370 (11.25m, YOB 2007), for 128 days traveling 4358 nautical miles from Spain to the Baltic Sea. Setting sail, dolphins, storms, calm seas, puffins, seagulls, locks, rain, sun, joy, friends, pride, long nights, fog, rocks, narrow passages, wide-open spaces, solitude, humility, mountains, anchoring, bays, sandbanks, excursions, arrival.
The idea had come up, been discarded, and matured over decades. However, it was never realized. Not enough time, other things were more important, no money, blah, blah – the usual excuses. Then, in 2010, my decision for a sabbatical (a career break) was made. From the idea came a plan, the route was mapped out, and boats were looked at, books and nautical charts were obtained. Also, the necessary sailing licenses still had to be obtained.
Then, at the end of March 2014, the „Fleur d’Océan“ was purchased, and two weeks later, we set sail. On August 15, 2014, we arrived in Laboe. In between, countless experiences and adventures.
Northward we were bound! From Hendaye on the Spanish-French border, through the Bay of Biscay, through the English Channel, along the North Sea coast to the Kiel Canal, through the Little Belt further north, then to Sweden, over the Koster Islands to Norway, Bergen and the Geiranger Fjord, across the North Atlantic to the Shetland Islands, Orkneys, and Hebrides, through the 29 locks of the Caledonian Canal back to the North Sea, through the North Sea, into the shallow Limfjord, through the Great Belt, and then after 128 days arriving in the Kiel Fjord at Laboe.
