After two remarkable voyages – a solo adventure across the Atlantic, North Sea, and Baltic Sea, and a challenging navigation around Italy – aboard the „Jolie Fleur,“ our beautifully classic yet modern 30-foot cruiser, I just completed another chapter.
The Adriatic Cruise; Exploring Italy, Croatia, Albania and Greece sailing 1365 nm from May 22nd to July 7th 2024
Departed from Marina Punta Gabbiani near Lignano (between Venice and Triest, northern Adriatic) on May 22, cruising down the stunning Croatian coast, dipping into Albania, and exploring the Greek islands before returning on July 7.
Highlights included navigating through Croatia’s picturesque archipelagos, from Istria to Mljet, and experiencing the contrast of Albania’s developing coastline. The journey to Corfu and back offered both serene moments and heart-pounding excitement.
Nature put on a show with dolphin encounters, sea turtle sightings, and breathtaking sunsets. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing – weathered intense storms, including a nail-biting night sail with lightning and massive waves between Corfu and Dubrovnik.
Discovered hidden bays, climbed coastal mountains for panoramic views, and indulged in local cuisines. Learned to handle everything from calm seas to 30-knot winds, and even tackled some boat maintenance challenges along the way.
This journey was a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, offering a true taste of Mediterranean sailing life. With each nautical mile, we uncovered stories, faced challenges, and celebrated the spirit of exploration that binds all sailors and dreamers.
